Today, PatientRightsAdvocate.org (PRA) released a joint report with George Washington University (GWU) and Stanford University School of Medicine (Stanford) detailing how nonprofit health system UCHealth brought more than 15,700 lawsuits against Colorado patients from 2019 through 2023 for medical debt. Patients who were sued reported not having easy access to prices, blocking them from verifying the accuracy of hospital charges.

PatientRightsAdvocate.org (PRA) is urging Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo to sign A.B. 343, major legislation to deliver hospital price transparency to Nevadans that was passed out of the Nevada Legislature earlier this week. If enacted, the bill would require Nevada hospitals to post all actual prices of available services online, so patients can see upfront prices before care, as well as provide tools for patients to seek recourse when they have been overcharged. It would codify the federal Hospital Price Transparency Rule first enacted in January 2021 under President Donald J. Trump and since expanded in February 2025.

PatientRightsAdvocate.org (PRA) released a new poll conducted by Echelon Insights finding that the overwhelming majority of Americans support real, upfront prices in healthcare. 96% agree that Americans “deserve to know the price of their healthcare before they receive it.”

PatientRightsAdvocate.org (PRA) applauded today’s bipartisan passage by the Oklahoma Legislature of major legislation to deliver hospital price transparency for Oklahomans and urged Governor Kevin Stitt to sign the bill without delay. If enacted, Senate Bill 889 would require Oklahoma hospitals to post the exact prices of available services online for upfront public viewing, with mechanisms included for state enforcement and patient protection.

The legislation, originally introduced as House Bill 49 by Ohio State Representatives Tim Barhorst (District 85) and Ron Ferguson (District 96) in February 2023, was passed unanimously by both chambers as an amendment to H.B. 173. If enacted, it would require Ohio hospitals to post the prices of available services online for upfront public viewing.
