WISCONSIN: PRA Statement on WI Senate Passing A.B. 598
Today, PatientRightsAdvocate.org (PRA) released the following statement by Founder and Chairman Cynthia Fisher regarding the passage of A.B. 598 (originally introduced as S.B. 383) by the Wisconsin Senate.
"Last night Wisconsin took an important step forward in the movement to guarantee upfront hospital prices for all patients. By passing A.B. 598, the Wisconsin Senate helped bring healthcare consumers closer to the day when hospital overcharges and surprise billing are no more. If enacted, this bipartisan bill would codify federal price transparency requirements into state law, which will protect Wisconsinites' right to real prices even if the rules are someday changed in Washington.
"PRA commends Senators Mary Felzkowski and Julian Bradley for their leadership in this fight, and calls on Governor Evers to sign this bill without delay. We also encourage lawmakers in both chambers to go further and follow otherstates' leads by passing stronger enforcement measures and concrete protections for patients, including a prohibition against debt collection by hospitals that refuse to show full prices."
