Letter to Coffeyville Regional Medical Center Regarding Suing of Patients for Medical Debt
February 12, 2019 – After hearing about the troubling situation in Coffeyville Kansas, patient advocacy groups PatientRightsAdvocate.org, along with Patients Rising and Restoring Medicine, sent a letter today to the Board of Directors of Coffeyville Regional Medical Center seeking a meeting to discuss ways to help residents avoid crippling medical debts.
Based on an investigative report, the non-profit, charity hospital, operating in a County-owned building, is responsible for the overwhelming majority of the 2,000 suits and dozens of bench warrants against patients who can’t pay their bills, in a town that is home to 9,000 people.
